Increasingly, finance people are leading the charge on technology implementation, especially when it concerns robots. This is a sensible development, as it is generally the finance people in shared services who really ‘get’ the process. However, here’s a word of warning to those professionals who have found themselves managing IT projects but who have not necessarily had the rigorous IT training: “Don’t Dodge UAT!”

User Acceptance Testing is the last hurdle in any implementation. However – and I speak from experience – by the time most projects get to UAT, the sparkle has begun to dim from the implementation, and most people involved in the project are already looking at the next workstream that’s calling their attention.

This is a mistake. UAT is critical. If something “goes out” without being properly user-accepted tested, you will alienate users and do some damage to your program. Change management efforts are severely dented by failure to follow UAT protocols.

Advice from a senior Finance professional from Jaguar Land Rover is: “Just because your program is being rolled out by business people, it doesn’t mean robust IT cadence should be overlooked.”
