5 Weeks to Belgium B2B Mandate Go-Live

Belgium will go live with its B2B e-invoicing mandate on 1st January 2026.
Belgium is using “out of the box” Peppol, which is remarkable, as it is the only country that has not made a single alteration to Peppol for its B2B mandate.
By mid-November 2025, more than 500,000 companies had registered with Peppol in Belgium. Given that there are approx. 1.2 million VAT registered companies there*, Belgium is nearing the halfway mark with 5 weeks to go. Thousands of taxpayers are registering each day now.
One glitch slowed down proceedings when one Peppol Service Provider’s SMP server dropped offline. According to Steve Noels, Head of Engineering at Bizzy, this highlights an important lesson: your Peppol provider is now critical business infrastructure. Taxpayers must select a provider that runs 24/7, 365 days a year.
