Sovos has acquired Blue dot, an AI-based VAT intelligence and recovery platform, expanding its tax compliance offering into travel and expense and accounts payable VAT recovery.

Blue dot’s technology analyses invoices, receipts and expense reports to identify recoverable VAT and convert fragmented transaction information into validated, tax-ready data. Its platform includes more than 150 purpose-built AI models, a transaction knowledge graph, real-time orchestration and tools for automating document ingestion and reconciliation.

The company serves hundreds of enterprise customers across sectors including financial services, consumer goods, retail and manufacturing. It is also an SAP Concur Endorsed App, giving Sovos an established distribution channel within the travel and expense market.

Sovos plans to incorporate Blue dot’s technology into its existing compliance platform, with a particular focus on diagnosing transaction failures. The aim is to help businesses identify not only which compliance rule has failed, but also the underlying data or business-process issue responsible.

The acquisition could also support reconciliation as continuous transaction controls and the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age reforms develop. Sovos highlighted the potential to compare structured B2B e-invoices with employee expenses and corporate-card transactions, helping businesses identify duplicate or inconsistent VAT reporting.

Sovos CEO, Kevin Akeroyd, says “Blue dot has built something genuinely rare — an AI engine purpose-built to understand the complexity and context hidden inside enterprise transaction data. Its combination of tax intelligence and agentic technology gives us a powerful foundation to accelerate our broader AI strategy. Just as importantly, we are adding a talented team that has spent nearly a decade building AI in production at enterprise scale.”

The press release did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition.
