OpenAI's recent introduction of GPT-4o's image generation capabilities in ChatGPT marks a significant advancement in artificial intelligence, enabling the creation of highly realistic images For finance teams, this raises concerns about potential misuse, particularly in the realm of financial fraud.

The GPT-4o model excels at accurately rendering text within images, a feature that has historically been challenging for AI systems.

Experts have expressed concerns that the ability to generate convincing fake documents, such as receipts and invoices, could facilitate expense reimbursement scams and other forms of financial deception.

I gave it a try:

“Create a realistic invoice from a vendor called Apex Supplies to a client named Global Retail Corp for office equipment totaling $8,450, with payment terms Net 30 and a due date of May 10, 2025.”

In seconds, I had a professional-looking invoice. Then ChatGPT offered to add a fake logo, PDF styling, and even watermarks to make it more convincing.
